Green ideas shortlisted by the Sustainable Development Commission
A quick glance through the ideas short-listed in the UK Sustainable Development Commission's 'Breakthrough Ideas' competition reveals a few concepts that have previously been discussed in depth in Construct Ireland.
Perhaps unsurprisngly, Cap and Share is amongst the ideas listed. One of C&S's developers, Richard Douthwaite, discussed the idea at length in Construct Ireland in 2007. Related ideas short-listed include Mayer Hillman's domestic tradeable quotas.
Ideas to reduce the capital cost to homeowners of energy upgrades also feature prominently. Both Knauf Insulation and the Farm Energy Project propose ideas that would allow homeowners to undertake energy upgrades at zero capital cost and then pay for the work done over time. Such ideas were discussed at length in the January issue of Construct Ireland.
